Poem

Summer Stars & Summer Has Two Beginnings

June 24, 2013

I thought two summer poems might cheer up July for me
and I hope you like these… The stars, and something darker…

carl_sandburgSUMMER STARS Carl Sandburg

BEND low again, night of summer stars.
So near you are, sky of summer stars,
So near, a long arm man can pick off stars,
Pick off what he wants in the sky bowl,
So near you are, summer stars,
So near, strumming, strumming,
So lazy and hum-strumming.

emily_dickinsonSummer Has Two Beginnings — by Emily Dickinson

Summer has two Beginnings
Beginning once in June
Beginning in October
Affectingly again

Without, perhaps, the Riot
But graphicker for Grace
As finer is a going
Than a remaining Face

Departing then forever
Forever until May
Forever is deciduous
Except to those who die
